Nambucca Valley Council is reiterating the importance of social distancing as the most effective method to slow the spread of COVID-19 and is encouraging everyone to take the necessary steps to ensure less contact between themselves and other people.
Mayor, Councillor Rhonda Hoban OAM said "Social distancing is important because COVID-19 is most likely to spread from person-to-person through direct close contact with a person while they are infectious or in the 24 hours before their symptoms appeared.
"Direct close contact includes touching objects or surfaces such as door handles, railings or tables that have been contaminated from a cough or sneeze from a person with a confirmed infection, and then touching your mouth or face. The more space between you and others, the harder it is for the virus to spread," said Mayor Hoban.
"To facilitate social distancing, protect the community and support State and Federal initiatives Council has closed the Nambucca and Macksville libraries, the Gumma Camping Ground and all Council owned buildings, the Macksville gymnasium and aquatic centre and has reduced the Administration Centre opening hours to 3 hours per day.
"Council is examining all service delivery options to further protect the community and staff in their provision. We will keep the community informed as procedures and processes are developed and implemented," said Mayor Hoban.
"Members of the community choosing to social distance can still carry out business with Council by calling the Business Services Unit on 6568 2555. If you have other enquiries please direct them to email@example.com " she said.
"I cannot emphasise enough the importance of maintaining social distancing. Health officials recommend a minimum 1.5 metres between individuals. If you are sick, stay away from others; that is the most important thing you can do. Authorities are also urging everyone to practise good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene. These simple, common sense actions help reduce risk to you and to others," Mayor Hoban concluded
