Nambucca, Kempsey and Port Macquarie-Hastings local government areas share a common Beach Driving Permit allowing 4WD vehicles to access designated beaches. Private and/or Amateur Fishermen, as well as Professional Fishermen need a Beach Driving Permit to access the beaches in the Nambucca Valley by 4WD. Under arrangement between the Nambucca Valley, Kempsey Shire and Port Macquarie Hastings Council, applicants are required to obtain a beach access permit from the Council serving the area in which they reside.
In Nambucca Valley Council, permits are issued on an annual basis (valid from 1 July to 30 June) and a 2 week Tourist Permit is also available. It is a finable offence not to have a Beach Driving Permit which must be clearly displayed as required. Permit holders must comply with the regulations detailed in the Vehicles on Beaches Brochure and all signage. Nambucca Valley access onto beaches is permitted at the following 3 locations :
The NO VEHICLES beach signage near the Little Tern breeding area has been relocated 1km south of its original location in concurrence with Council, the Vehicular Access to Beaches Commitee, National Parks & Wildlife Service, and the Gaagal Wanggaan (South Beach) National Park Board of Management. The sign is now in place and temporary fencing will soon be installed from the sign down to the high tide mark to reinforce the seasonal closure (October to February) to improve protection for nesting shorebirds. Enquiries to: National Parks & Wildlife Service Coffs Coast office on 6652 0900. Brochure: Gaagal Wanggaan (South Beach) National Park
