The Nambucca Shire Council Australia Day Awards recognises individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the Valley’s community, and for exceptional achievement in community, sporting and cultural endeavours.

Guidelines – Australia Day Awards Nominations

The purpose of these awards is to acknowledge the achievement of outstanding individuals, young and old who have made a valuable contribution to the Nambucca Shire community. These awards will help inspire and encourage accomplishment in community service, volunteering, sport, education, arts and culture and be truly inclusive.

Who can nominate

Residents of the Nambucca Shire but excluding Councillors and Council staff.  Self-nominations or nominations from a close relative will not be accepted. If no nominations are received in a particular category, there will be no award for that category.

Eligibility of Person Being Nominated

How to Nominate:

Nominations can only be made by completing the official Nomination Form.  The nomination should detail the nature, duration and impact of the nominee’s contribution to the Nambucca Shire. Supporting documentation may also be provided.  Such documentation should be a copy only of original documents.

You are encouraged to provide as much information as possible on the Nomination Form. Not only will this assist the Committee in the decision-making process, but excerpts from this information will form the basis of the citation which is provided to the local media.  Nominations will only be assessed for the category marked on the nomination form.

Nomination Deadlines:

Nominations will open on the 1st day of November and close at 4 pm on the second Friday in December each year. Late nominations will not be accepted. The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Categories:

Citizen of the Year: To be eligible for the Citizen of the Year award a person must be aged 24 years of age or under 70 years on 26 January and could be described as role models in the community who have given selflessly of themselves to others.

Senior Citizen of the Year: To be eligible for the Senior Citizen of the Year award the person must be 70 years of age or older on 26 January and have made an outstanding contribution to their community.

Young Citizen of the Year: To be eligible for the Young Citizen of the Year award the person must be under 24 years of age on 26 January and have made an outstanding contribution to their community or school.

Cultural Achievement AwardThere is no age category for this award.  This is a special category for outstanding achievement in this field.

Senior Sports Person – AwardTo be eligible for this award, the person must be aged 24years and over and achieved outstanding results throughout the year.

Junior Sports Person – Male AwardTo be eligible for this award the person must be under 24 years and achieved outstanding results throughout the year.

Junior Sports Person – Female AwardTo be eligible for this award the person must be under 24 years and achieved outstanding results throughout the year.

Senior Sports Team Award - To be eligible for this Award the team should have achieved outstanding success and/or competed at State or National level or received consistent results at a regional or local level.

Junior Sports Team Award - To be eligible for this Award the team should have achieved outstanding success and/or competed at State or National level or received consistent results at a regional or local level.

Services to the Community by an Individual or OrganisationTo be eligible for nomination the individual or organisation should have made a noteworthy contribution by either establishing or participating in an organisation or service of on-going benefit to the community. The contribution may be in any field considered appropriate by the Committee and should have been made over a number of years.

Good Neighbour Australia Day AwardsTo be eligible for nomination the person should have made a noteworthy contribution by demonstrating a benevolent, caring, generous disposition and/or providing outstanding service to his or her neighbours or people in need.

Environment Award - To be eligible for nomination the person should have made a noteworthy contribution towards recycling or an environmental initiative.

Environmental Citizen - To be eligible for nomination the citizen championing litter reduction and/or environmental initiatives in the local community by preserving the environment, using the Return and Earn scheme to fundraise for a meaningful cause, fostering partnerships that achieve litter reduction and recycling outcomes.
