MEDIA RELEASE - VALE COUNCILLOR TREVOR BALLANGARRY

Nambucca Valley Council regrets to advise that serving Councillor and local identity, Trevor Ballangarry passed away peacefully on 1 March.

Councillor Trevor Ballangarry, an Elder and proud Gumbaynggirr man was elected to Council in December 2021.

A passionate and knowledgeable advocate for the recognition and preservation of Aboriginal culture and heritage, Councillor Trevor Ballangarry was also passionate about ensuring opportunities for all Nambucca Valley residents through job creation and support for local businesses.

Having worked in Local Government himself for more than forty years he understood how local government works and he was a self-proclaimed expert on “bulldust” both in political terms and unsealed rural roads. He was a staunch advocate for the challenges faced by our many rural residents.

With the undaunting support of his wife Janice, Councillor Trevor Ballangarry’s contribution to the community extended beyond his civic leadership as part of Nambucca Valley Council, to include working with organisations such as National Parks and Wildlife Service, numerous volunteer organisations, a Directorship with Community Transport and as a sports coach.

Councillor Trevor Ballangarry will be sadly missed by his fellow Councillors and staff.

Council’s flags will fly at half-mast for the day of the next Council meeting and the following day for the funeral, as a mark of respect and mourning for the passing of this respected and distinguished Australian citizen.
