Waste Management

Waste Wise

Learning to be waste wise is a priority world wide as it is one of the most pressing issues facing humanity today.

Did you know that Australia is the second most wasteful nation in the world?  We produce more than 18 million tonnes of waste per year.  We are producing more waste than ever before due to the current trend of high consumption and highly specialised packaging, alongside the ever growing mountain of goods discarded by our throwaway society.

Nambucca Valley Council has been proactive in this area by entering into a partnership with Coffs Harbour City and Bellingen Shire Councils and Handybin Waste Services resulting in a regional waste collection service which commenced at the end of 2005 and is known as Coffs Coast Waste Service.

Community Recycling Centres

Not all household waste can be put in your kerbside bins.  Community Recycling Centres offer a FREE and EASY solution for the disposal of household problem waste such as paints, gas bottles, motor oils, batteries, smoke detectors and fluorescent globes and tubes.

Many of these materials can be reused and recycled if processed correctly.  Recycling helps our environment because it saves water, energy and natural resources.

Your local Community Recycling Centre is located at Nambucca Waste Management Facility, 711 Old Coast Road, Nambucca Heads, open 8am - 4pm every day (closed public holidays).

How to protect our sewer network

Nambucca Valley Council is having to devote more resources and money to dealing with blockages related to flushable wipes. These wipes do not disintegrate and have a tendency to matt together and cause blockages in pipelines and particularly in pumps.
