Private Land

Impounding straying stock on private land is the responsibility of the land owner and there are procedures that must be followed.  These procedures are outlined in Part 2, Division 3, Sections 13 & 14 of the Impounding Act.

If possible, stock impounded on private land should be returned to their owner.  However, if the owner cannot be located then you may arrange for the stock to be transported to Council’s Stock Pound at Macksville Showground, Rodeo Drive, Macksville after contacting Council’s Ranger.  It is your responsibility to organise the capture and transport of impounded stock on your land to Council’s Stock Pound.  All associated costs are also your responsibility.

Once the cattle have been claimed or sold by Council, you are entitled to seek reimbursement of any costs incurred. The reimbursement amount will be dependent on the proceeds of sale and the recovery of impounding fees, less any fees incurred by Council.

Unclaimed and unidentified stock will be advertised and auctioned publicly through the fortnightly stock sales held at the Macksville Showground.
