Macksville Pre-school starts its 50th anniversary celebrations

Macksville Pre-school Childcare Centre’s Golden Anniversary celebrations began at the centre last week with Educational Leader Alysia Starr cutting the birthday cake, on her 12th anniversary as an educator at the pre-school.

The children were very excited (about the cake), being the first of several planned activities, including a commemorative tree to be unveiled at the end of year graduation ceremony.

Nambucca Valley Councillor Tamara McWilliam said the centre holds beautiful memories for her.

“I attended pre-school here in 1983 and my children have also been fortunate enough to come here,” she said.

“Earlier this year I got involved in the centre on a volunteer basis after it experienced challenging times.

“I am pleased Nambucca Valley Council and I, along with our directors, general committee members, Acting Director Amanda Cowan and valued educators have been able to strengthen the pre-school and ensure it can continue to provide its service to our community.”

Macksville Pre-school Childcare Centre opened on 26 August 1975 and has provided a not-for-profit service to the Nambucca Valley community since then.

Macksville Pre-school Board Director, Stacey Munro, joined the start of anniversary celebrations on Thursday.

“I am proud to serve on the volunteer board of our local not-for-profit preschool because it aligns with my personal values and professional ethics,” she said.

“I believe in the importance of early childhood education and the role it plays in shaping inclusive, supportive communities.

“This work is made possible through the encouragement and support of the board and executive committee at Lifetime Connect, where I serve as the Aged, Community & Wellness Manager.

“Their endorsement of community engagement and volunteering empowers me to contribute meaningfully beyond my formal role, reinforcing our shared vision of supporting local community across all life stages.”

The Macksville Pre-school currently has 35 children attending per day and this number is set to grow in 2026.
