Major make-over starts at Macksville Library
Published on 05 January 2026
A major refurbishment of Macksville Library has started and once it reopens in mid-February, our community will benefit from revitalised spaces and a new meeting pod.
Acting General Manager Kristian Enevoldson said the library renovation is being delivered through a $346,224 grant from the State Library of New South Wales.
“Macksville library is a popular community hub and we are looking forward to it receiving a major upgrade that will benefit our community,” he said.
“Key among our priorities when designing the refurbished spaces was meeting the needs of young people.
“The renovated library will have a youth area with bean bags alongside shelves of graphic novels and other youth-focussed materials. The children’s area will have Colosseum-style circular seating and shorter shelves to let in more natural light.
“Plus there will be a new sound-proof meeting room as well.”
Macksville Library will be closed until mid-February 2026. Borrowers wishing to return library materials to Macksville Library are still able to do so during the shut down period, at its return chute. Library members wishing to borrow new materials will need to select items from Nambucca Library only, which is open from Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 12pm.
Refurbishing the library meets objectives in Council’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan to improve community infrastructure and promote connectedness and well-being.
The refurbishment will improve natural lighting, update all library furniture and provide new floor coverings. The library’s new furnishings will be on wheels, so it can be moved around and changed to best suit delivering future events and author talks.
