Nambucca town centre master plan group members meet up

Four business owners and commercial property owners recently appointed to the Nambucca Heads Town Centre Master Plan Community Reference Group caught up in Nambucca Heads over the weekend.
Nambucca Valley Mayor Gary Lee, who is the reference group’s chairperson, said it was great to briefly catch up with some of the community reference group’s members, ahead of their first formal meeting expected in the coming weeks.
“Ever since I became Mayor, Nambucca Heads community members have been asking me ‘how are we going to liven up and beautify the town centre?’,” he said.
“Well soon the Nambucca Heads Town Centre Master Plan Community Reference Group, project consultant Redbelly Design and the broader community through phases of consultation will be able to put in place a plan to answer that question.
“I look forward to working on this project with my fellow Councillors, James Angel and Tamara McWilliam, our community and Council’s planning team.”
Expressions of interest were open for community members, business owners and commercial property owners to join the Nambucca Heads Town Centre Master Plan Community Reference Group from 22 April to 8 May 2026.
Residents appointed to the community reference group are:
- Community members: Maryjane Campbell and Barry Hezlett
- Business owners: Sam Maier and Cassandra Doyle
- Commercial property owners: Wendy Mills and Kay Harkess.
The group will meet as required throughout 2026 and 2027 and its role is to work closely with Council staff and the masterplan project consultant, Redbelly Design, to provide meaningful, representative input and feedback. The group does not have a decision-making role.
Wendy Mills, who is Chief Executive Officer at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club, caught up with Mr Maier, Ms Doyle, Ms Harkess and Mr Lee on Saturday 13 June.
“I think we live in a very unique part of the world, it’s magical and we have some of the best views on the Mid North Coast,” she said.
“We now have beautiful parklands and improved facilities, especially along the foreshore, but I think the one thing that’s missing is our town centre.
“We are a tourist destination, so we need to continually work on making our town a good tourism drawcard, so I hope the master planning process will support our town’s longevity and ultimately help to bring more visitors here.”
