A major milestone was reached on Scotts Head Road last Friday, with the bitumen sealing of the first of seven road reconstruction projects as part of a $2.3 million upgrade thanks to the Australian Government’s Black Spots Program.

Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle would like to thank Scotts Head and Way Way residents, businesses and motorists for their ongoing patience during recent road works which caused some delays to travel times.

“It was great to see the spreader truck, 16-tonne roller and other plant along Scotts Head Road on Friday (7 November) finishing the first major road realignment,” he said.

“This 370 metres of improved road infrastructure will be line-marked in December, with guard rail installed soon after”.

“This week our construction team heads further east along Scotts Head Road to clear vegetation for further road realignment works at the next work site, located just west of the old Jonsey’s fruit stall.

“Council anticipates increased activity in the coming months as several sites may be under construction concurrently. We thank the community for their ongoing patience and understanding while these essential road upgrades are carried out through 2026.”

At the end of the project a total of seven black spot sites along Scotts Head Road will have been realigned and widened, making the road much safer for motorists.

In 2021-22 Council secured funding from Australian Government under the Australian Government Black Spots Program for this work. These seven sites were identified as having a record of casualty crashes or as potential crash locations. The purpose of the funding is to reduce the social and economic costs caused by road trauma, through improving the physical condition of the road.
