New sewage pump station construction starts next week

Council’s construction contractor working on the Valla Urban Growth Area (VUGA) project, AJ Civil Projects, is planning to mobilise its team to the new sewage pump station site adjacent to Giinagay Way, Nambucca Heads, from early next week.
Over the past few weeks, under the guidance of an ecologist, the contractor cleared vegetation at the site to prepare for mobilising plant and equipment there.
Nambucca Valley Council Acting General Manager David Moloney said reaching this stage was excellent as it is the final major construction job needed to unlock VUGA Stage One.
“Council is really pleased with the pace and quality of construction of the VUGA master-planned community,” he said.
“Civil construction works on the western side of the Pacific Motorway are completed and now we start the last, big job on the eastern side of the highway.
“About 90 per cent of the water and sewer pipelines have been installed on the eastern side, with the final pipes expected to be placed by about September or October this year.
“The sewer trunk main has been installed under Red Ash Road and the highway and it will be gravity fed to the new sewage pump station, located near the old Boggy Creek Road adjacent to Giinagay Way.
“We expect construction of the sewage pump station and an adjacent bulk water filling station to be completed by the end of 2026, weather depending, which will enable VUGA Stage One and its industrial opportunities to go full steam ahead.”
AJ Civil Projects has the following activities planned for the first couple of weeks for the sewage pump station project, scheduled to start from about Monday 6 July:
- Site set-up and installation of environmental controls
- Remove tree stumps
- Start earthworks for the cul-de-sac formation, which is the turning-circle and parking area for bulk water carriers
- Import and place road base material on the cul-de-sac area.
Residents will see the AJ Civil Projects team members at old Boggy Creek Road site, from this Monday 6 July, weather depending. There will also be an excavator on site and tipper trucks, so motorists are encouraged to drive carefully in this area of Nambucca Heads and adhere to road signs and traffic control.
Construction hours for this project are Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm and Saturdays 8am to 1pm. Any construction work on a Saturday is envisaged it will be carried out intermittently only.
