V-Wall precinct on track to shine this summer

Remediation works to protect the sensitive V-Wall area are almost complete and now Nambucca Valley Council team members will move east to clean-up Wellington Beach.
Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said the team’s five weeks of work would ensure the V-Wall was strengthened and presentable ready for the busy summer holiday period.
“The V-Wall is an iconic destination for our valley and it was battered by large surf and wave surges in March during tropical cyclone Alfred and again in May,” he said.
“Council is delivering the work on behalf of Crown Lands including:
- Placing 77 metres of gabion baskets along the edge of the footpath of the short wall and repaired the ground behind it
- Moving 300 cubic metres of sand from off V-Beach and using it to fill 150 geo-fabric bags placed on the western side (Little Beach) to strengthen the river bank
- Laying 860 square metres of salt-tolerant turf
- Coordinating works at nearby Wellington Beach to remove the washed-up debris.
“When this work is completed by mid-next week, the popular precinct will be strong, cleaned up and looking its best for our community to enjoy this summer.”
The V-Wall main wall will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists on Thursday-Friday 11-12 December from about 6.30am to 4pm. It will open to pedestrians and cyclists over the weekend and then close again on Monday-Tuesday 15-16 December from 6.30am to 4pm. During this time heavy plant and dump trucks will use the main wall to access Wellington Beach and remove debris.
This work is being delivered thanks to Category C disaster recovery funding from the NSW Reconstruction Authority.
