Macksville Library has reopened its doors, revealing stylish new children and youth spaces as well as a soundproof meeting pod, perfect for small group meetings.

Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said the seven-week refurbishment works were delivered thanks to a $346,224 grant from the State Library of New South Wales.

“It’s great to see Macksville Library has reopened today for our community to use and it is looking much more stylish than before,” he said.

“It has been repainted, new carpet has been installed and the library has been kitted out with all new furniture.

“The children and youth areas were a focus of the refurbishment, with the young adult corner decked out with bean bags alongside shelves of graphic novels and the children’s area now has circular Colosseum-style seating.

“It is certainly a more inviting community space now and I encourage library members and visitors to head on in and check it out for themselves.”

One added benefit of the library’s refurbishment is having all of the new bookcases and shelving on wheels, so it can be moved and the space opened up for events and author talks.

Weekly Storytime at Macksville Library returns this Thursday 26 February from 10am and families are encouraged to bring their children along and enjoy the new space.

Refurbishing the library meets objectives in Council’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan to improve community infrastructure and promote connectedness and well-being.
