Council is upgrading its bulk water filling stations to better service the Nambucca Valley’s rural communities and to improve access for bulk water carters.

Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said the new South Macksville bulk water filling station is about one month from opening to registered bulk water carters and that the new site is state-of-the-art.

“Nambucca Valley is in a really good position to get through drought times due to the large water storage capacity at Bowraville Dam,” he said.

“However our bulk water filling stations, the access points to our town water supply, were in need of improvement.

“So this financial year, Council is delivering a new bulk water filling station adjacent to Yarrawonga Street, at the top of the Macksville Industrial Estate.

“The site is about 80 per cent completed and it has been carefully laid out to make vehicle access easy for our existing, registered water carters via a large concrete driveway, and the new filling station will provide fast-flowing, metered water.

“We are also starting construction of an improved bulk water filling station at Valla, near the old Boggy Creek Road, from about 18 May, as part of the sewage pump station works required to service Valla Urban Growth Area.

“Next financial year 2026/27, we are also constructing a new bulk water filling station in Bowraville, on Valla Road adjacent to the Bowraville Sawmill.”

While these bulk water filling stations have been in construction, the Blue Fill Points have been available for smaller water carters, with a credit card, at Ken Howard Crescent in Nambucca Heads, and at Grassy Park, George Street, in Bowraville.

Council also intends constructing a unit, similar to the Blue Fill Points, in the future in Dudley Street, Macksville, adjacent to the sewage pump station, for other smaller water carters to use.

An Abberfield water filling station, manufactured in Australia, will soon be installed at the Macksville Industrial Estate bulk water filling station. It will be connected to a large diameter, 200mm water main, so its flow rate will be quick, providing approximately 1000 litres of water per minute. This means for an average, registered bulk water carter’s tank of 10,000 litres, it will take only 10 minutes to fill up. The water filling station will have an 80mm outlet.
