This week Council is amplifying the important National Road Safety Week 2026 message to Drive So Others Survive.

Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said this simple message was a powerful reminder that how we drive on our roads affects other people and our environment.

“To be able to drive on roads is a privilege and it is a shared responsibility to keep our roads safe,” he said.

“This week we’re lighting up the old Macksville Bridge in yellow to support National Road Safety Week.

“This year’s message is powerful, as it encourages us to remember we can affect other people, wildlife, and our environment every time we get behind the wheel. So let us always pledge to drive so others survive.”

This year’s National Road Safety Week 2026 message encourages all road users to:

  • Slow down
  • Watch for pedestrians
  • Give cyclists space
  • Take extra care around schools and buses
  • Always wear a seatbelt
  • Plan your journey, by checking your vehicle before you depart, planning rest stops, putting your phone on do not disturb and leaving with plenty of time.

While the old Macksville Bridge will shine yellow from 17-24 May 2026, it is important to remember everyone deserves to get home safely, every day, so safe driving behaviours need to continue year-round.
