Major refurbishment works continue at Tilly Willy Bridge, where Council’s Structures team will now require until Monday 22 June to complete the essential infrastructure works.

Nambucca Valley Council Acting General Manager David Moloney said work to renew the failing piles had gone well, however the team had discovered two deteriorating girders.

“Council’s Structures team has been working on Tilly Willy Bridge since 4 May and its refurbishment program has been successful,” he said.

“The team has completed all four pile sets and are waiting for the concrete to strengthen.

“However when they levelled the pre-cast concrete decking units, they realised there was a deck section sagging, which has meant the team now have to do more construction work to strengthen up this section.

“Council estimates this extra work will take just over one more week to complete, weather depending. We thank the community for its continuing patience – our team plans to re-open the bridge to traffic by COB Monday 22 June, at this stage.”

Once the bridge works are completed, the team will start work to construct deep lift asphalt approaches with corrected levels. This will strengthen the approaches to the bridge and ensure a smooth transition between the road and bridge. These improved approaches ensures once the bridge is opened, heavy vehicles will be able to use Tilly Willy Bridge.

Detours remain in place while the bridge is closed – now up until Monday 22 June 2026

A detour remains in place for all motorists, vehicles and pedestrians. It started on 4 May and it will now continue until COB 22 June, weather depending:

  • Kings Point residents: local residents with light vehicles will be able to detour through Kings Point estate, via Jellico and Sturdee Streets, then over Little Tilly Willy Bridge on Taylors Arm Road to Macksville. A disruption to the Kings Point water service is planned for approximately half a day during the bridge girder works, planned for Wednesday 17 June, however this date is subject to change. A variable message board will be on site and it will confirm the day/time of the water shut off.
  • Macksville and Bowraville residents: residents of these towns are encouraged to use Rodeo Drive whenever possible to travel between Macksville and Bowraville, to minimise impact on Kings Point estate.
  • Pedestrians: pedestrian access is still open over Tilly Willy Bridge, as the footpath on the bridge’s southern side remains open. However on Wednesday 17 June when the girder works start, the bridge will be closed to pedestrians.
