The second, lengthy section of road works on Scotts Head Road is nearing completion, with the Council road crew estimating there is 4-6 weeks’ worth of work to go until it is sealed.

Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said this section of road reconstruction is the longest on the Scotts Head Road Black Spots Program’s list and it has already delivered significant safety benefits to motorists.

“Our road team has been working on turns 5, 6, and 7 on Scotts Head Road for about three months now, which is the longest and most complex reconstruction section for the road to date,” he said.

“The drainage there has been significantly improved, with 3, 600mm wide culverts now installed under the road, each about 17 metres in length, which will dramatically improve the road’s performance in this low-lying area during rain events.

“Through a total of $2.3 million investment from the Australian Government’s Black Spots Program, this section of road near Scotts Head Nursery will be bitumen sealed in about 4-6 weeks’ time, weather depending, and its completion will mark the fourth project site to be finished.

“I’d like to thank the Scotts Head and Way Way communities for their for their ongoing patience while we carry out the major upgrade to this road and ultimately make it far safer for motorists.”

After the widened road section near Scotts Head Nursery is completed, Council’s road crew will head north-west to work on other road reconstruction sites, closer to Macksville.

In 2021-22 Council secured funding from the Australian Government under the Australian Government Black Spots Program for this work. These road sites were identified as having a record of casualty crashes or as potential crash locations. The purpose of the funding is to reduce the social and economic costs caused by road trauma, through improving the physical condition of the road.
