Residents catch up on projects at Bowraville session

About 30 Bowraville and South Arm residents attended a community drop-in session at Grants Hall in Bowraville on Saturday, where they heard key updates on several Council projects.
Nambucca Valley Deputy Mayor Susan Jenvey was one of the councillors who attended the session, where she chatted to people about their improvement ideas for the town’s central intersection and locations for a potential splash pad in the Hennessey Tape Recreation area.
“I really enjoyed catching up with community on Saturday where a broad range of views was shared on some key, revitalising projects for Bowraville,” she said.
“Council staff updated the community on the staged implementation of the Bowraville Masterplan and Design Report and I heard some great ideas from community on potential improvements for the intersection of High and Belmore Streets.
“Ideas for this central intersection ranged from adding a pedestrian crossing to making it more like a town square and installing plants to support shade. All of our community member’s ideas were excellent and they will be considered at a future Council meeting.
“It was great to hear a splash pad would be highly welcomed in Bowraville, should Council be able to secure funding for it. There are three potential sites Council has put forward for the splash pad, and there is still time for residents to give their feedback on it by taking an online survey by 12 October.”
At the community drop-in session on Saturday, Council staff outlined its focus of implementing Precinct 1 of the Bowraville Masterplan and Design Report through $225,000 funding Council has allocated. Precinct 1 is located in the High Street median strip, approximately opposite Nambucca Valley Phoenix, and it will be improved by adding shade trees, street furniture and a meandering pathway.
The three sites Council is currently engaging with the community on for the potential installation of a splash pad in the future, subject to funding, are:
- Hennessey Tape Recreation Area site 1: located adjacent to the intersection of Coronation Street and road to Bowra Sports Hub, this site is central and it has good exposure and surveillance. The site would benefit from being built up by approximately 1-2 metres first, before a potential splash pad of about the same size as the one at Bellwood Park was built.
- Hennessey Tape Recreation Area site 2: located adjacent to Coronation Street, Bowraville, on the southern side of the road, this proposed site is central and it has good exposure and surveillance. Any splash pad here would require fencing due to its proximity to the road and golf course.
- Hennessey Tape Recreation Area site 3: located near existing picnic shelters, bicycle facilities and the playground, site 3 provides a well-connected site to the park’s other recreational activities. It is located away from roads, however its site surveillance is poorer than at sites 1 or 2, and the land is also subject to an Aboriginal land claim, which would require additional permissions over its use and compensation may be required.
Other projects Council outlined to the community on Saturday included installing LED lighting in the town clock and staff asked community members whether or not they would like to see security cameras installed in this area.
