Crane-action at new sewage pump station site

A 100 tonne crane successfully pieced together a new 78T sewage wet well on Friday 24 July, completing the most challenging construction task needed for the new sewage pump station.
Nambucca Valley Council Acting General Manager David Moloney said achieving this milestone ticked-off one of the last, remaining large-scale operations for the lead-in infrastructure for Valla Urban Growth Area (VUGA) Stage One.
“The 7 metre high sewer wet well certainly made an impressive sight on Friday, when it was crane-lifted into place and sealed together inside a deep excavation,” he said.
“The sewage wet well was made up of five separate, pre-fabricated concrete units, transported to site with heavy vehicle escorts from Swanbank in South-east Queensland and Wodonga in Victoria.
“Its five massive concrete structures were methodically lifted, one after the other, all resting on the wet well’s 23T base unit.
“Next, concrete coring of the wet well will be carried out, so the sewage pipe, discharge lines and electrical power lines needed to run the sewage pumps can be installed.
“Construction of the new pump station, the site’s adjacent bulk water filling station, and laying of the final pipes is on track to be completed by the end of 2026, unlocking the exciting mixed-use precinct VUGA.”
AJ Civil Projects is the principal contractor delivering both the sewage pump station and civil works required for VUGA Stage One. Ledonne Constructions continues installing the water trunk main and sewer rising main pipework to provide potable water to the development and connecting the sewer to the Nambucca Heads Sewage Treatment Plant.
The new sewage pump station is located near the old Boggy Creek Road, adjacent to Giinagay Way at Nambucca Heads. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully in this area and adhere to road signs and traffic control.
