A 70m landslip at Valla is close to being remediated
Published on 12 August 2026
In five weeks, Council’s contractor has remediated a large landslip, approximately 70 metres in length, adjacent to Flame Tree Road, Valla.
Nambucca Valley Mayor Gary Lee and Nambucca Valley Acting General Manager David Moloney visited the site on Friday to see how construction was going.
“Flame Tree Road had been eroded through several years of flooding and it’s great to see the landslip now covered in engineered rock-fill and the works almost complete,” he said.
“Through funding from the NSW Reconstruction Authority, Council will deliver further remediation works at about another 80 landslip sites across our valley over the next two to three years. I thank the Federal and State Governments for the funding to repair some of our valley’s roads and embankments.”
Mr Moloney said the landslip site at Valla is the fifth remediation job so far carried out this year.
“Our contractor, ACG, has been working at Flame Tree Road now for five weeks,” he said.
“They have completed the rock armouring of the batter and on Friday 7 August they spray-sealed Flame Tree Road. There’s just the guard rail installation and fencing to go and then this job will be completed.
“This site is the fifth landslip site to be remediated so far this year.
“Council has finalised a submission to the NSW Reconstruction Authority on the large landslip at Gumma, adjacent to Gumma Road, for natural disaster funding. It is a priority for Council to fix this site and we will continue to work with relevant government agencies to secure funding to remediate this site.”
Landslips across the Nambucca Valley remediated so far this year include:
- Piggot Street, Nambucca Heads
- Riverside Drive, Nambucca Heads
- Taylors Arm Rd, the landslip site located 4.7kms west of Macksville
- And Johns Bridge at Missabotti is very near to completion.

Another Council contractor started remediating a landslip on the banks of the Nambucca River at River Street, Macksville, near to the Phillip Hughes Bridge on 27 July this year. Work will also start this week to remediate a package of 10 landslips, located in the upper reaches of Taylors Arm/Burrapine.
Disaster recovery works are funded by the NSW Reconstruction Authority and Council appreciates the Federal and State Governments funding these essential repairs to the valley’s infrastructure.
