High pressure cleaning has stared at Valla Reservoir
Published on 12 February 2026
The Alfab Services work crew have made a great start to cleaning inside the Valla Beach Reservoir, with three high-pressure blast clean sessions so far delivered at the tank’s base.
Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said the reservoir located on Valla Beach Road was 51 years old and it was time the huge tank was refurbished with care.
“By having a specialist contractor deliver this work, the reservoir’s life-span will be significantly lengthened,” he said.
“Delivering affordable, reliable potable water to residents and businesses within towns is one of Council’s key roles.
“Alfab Services team have so far high-pressure blasted three applications of Garnet SA3 safe blast abrasive to the internal base of the tank.
“This first step of high-pressure blasting both cleans and prepares the structure’s steel for refurbishing.
“Next, Alfab Services’ team will install scaffolding all the way up the inside the reservoir and then gradually blast clean its entire surface.”
Construction hours for this work are 7am to 5pm weekdays and work may potentially occur on Saturdays from time to time, between 8am to 1pm. Community members may hear a humming noise during blast cleaning. Alfabs Services personnel will endeavour to minimise disturbance and intermittent noise monitoring will occur at the site to ensure compliance with construction noise level limits.
High-pressure cleaning and refurbishing the Valla Reservoir is a technical job and it could take up until June 2026 to complete, weather depending. The Valla Reservoir was built in 1975.
