Nambucca River set to shine blue and maroon tomorrow
Published on 13 May 2026
Bright blue and maroon lights will be shimmering on the Nambucca River tomorrow night in Macksville, when the Old Macksville Bridge will be lit up ahead of the Women’s State of Origin kick off at 7.45pm.
If the NSW Women’s Blues team win tomorrow night, they will have won the State of Origin series for 2026, as they took out Game One on 30 April.
Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said it’s great to be able to light up our valley’s historic bridge to support special days in our national calendar.
“The Old Macksville Bridge has been lit up in many colours this year to support different charities and cultural events,” he said.
“Tomorrow night could potentially be the decider for the Women’s State of Origin for NSW, so it will be fun to see the river reflecting blue and maroon as the valley gets behind the game and their favourite team.
“Of course, should our State’s team lose tomorrow night, we will be diplomatic and change the lights to maroon to acknowledge the Queensland Women’s team’s effort, but if our NSW team wins, it will shine blue all night.”
Game One of the 2026 Women’s State of Origin series was held on Thursday 30 April at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle, where the Blues won 11-6. Tomorrow night’s game is being held at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. The third game is scheduled for Thursday 28 May at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.
If you know of an important charity or special day in our national calendar and you would like to request of Council to consider lighting up the Old Macksville Bridge in a specific colour, you can contact council@nambucca.nsw.gov.au with the event details. Be sure to include your colour or colours and the dates of your event.
Council will endeavour to assist to promote important events where possible, should the person’s request be charitable in nature and fit in with the bridge lights’ existing calendar.
