Today the design consultants for the revitalisation of Partridge Street Playground, Macksville preschoolers officially opened the new space.

Nambucca Valley Mayor Gary Lee said the playground’s success and choice of castle, climbing structure and swings was due to the input from students at Macksville Pre-School Childcare Centre.

“Earlier this year, Councillor Tamara McWilliam and I spoke with students at Macksville Pre-School about doing up the park and we took the exciting step of perusing the play equipment catalogue with them,” he said.

“While we did have to subtly reign in their choices, letting children influence what play equipment Council went on to purchase there was an excellent step.

“It’s great to stand here today and see how the children’s ideas have been realised and to open this revitalised Macksville park.”

The Partridge Street Playground upgrade has been delivered through a $115,000 Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program - Phase 4 grant, and as part of the broader project, with additional funding from Council.

Nambucca Valley Councillor Tamara McWilliam said the quality of the playground’s equipment and its soft fall surface was impressive.

“The 14 children from Macksville Pre-school and nine from St Patrick’s Primary School here today have loved climbing through the castle and going down the slide,” she said.

“This equipment helps grow a child’s gross motor skills and social skills and the castle has provided great role-playing opportunities as well.

“It’s fantastic this playground has been updated and it is open in time for the summer holidays for our community to enjoy.”

Nambucca Valley Council’s report, Delivery Program and Operational Plan 2025-2026, sets the goal of maintaining and improving community infrastructure that provides a basis for our connectedness and well-being. Upgrading Partridge Street Playground has supported this outcome, as has other park upgrades such as the splash pad at Bellwood Park in Nambucca Heads.
