About 2000 visitors and 350 specialist cars are visiting the Nambucca Valley this weekend for the 47th annual Valla Beach Hot Rod Run.

Nambucca Valley Mayor Gary Lee welcomed the event and its estimated $2 million injection into the local economy.

“For 47 years our valley has hosted the Drag-ens’ Valla Beach Hot Rod Run, which started with just 72 cars in 1977,” he said.

“While the main stay of entrants and their family members congregate at Valla Beach, the benefit from an extra 2000 visitors flows right across the valley into cafes, pubs and clubs, and accommodation providers.

“Council has sponsored the event this year, providing $7000 in support due to its broad economic and social benefits.

“I wish the Drag-ens Hot Rod Club Committee all the best for the event’s finale this weekend and I hope to catch up with community members at the club’s presentation night at The Woolshed in Valla Beach.”

Drag-ens Hot Rod Club-Valla Committee Vice-President Leigh Anderson thanked Council for its sponsorship and invited the whole community to come out and enjoy the cars this weekend.

“Whether you live in Bowraville, Macksville or Nambucca Heads, you will be seeing some beautiful, polished hot rods over the coming days,” he said.

“Today (Thursday 2 October) our club has done a poker run from Valla Beach to Macksville and later we will be heading to the Nambucca Heads RSL Club.

“Saturday is the main event where the hot rods will parade from Valla Beach Holiday Park at 9am, all the way up Ocean View Drive. From there we drive to Nambucca Heads town centre for the annual Show & Shine which finishes about noon.

“Then we cruise back to Valla Beach and gather in the evening for the club’s presentation night and trophies for top cars, best rookie and more.”

Motorists driving in the Valla Beach and Nambucca Heads areas on Saturday 4 October are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and drive to the conditions. There are road closures in Bowra and Mann Streets, from Ridge Street to West Street, Nambucca Heads, from 8am to 1pm. A sign posted detour will be provided around the closures.
