Major refurbishment soon to start at Valla Reservoir
Published on 30 January 2026
Major refurbishment works are set to start at Valla Beach reservoir next week, so this vital infrastructure can be well maintained.
Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said the Valla Reservoir on Valla Beach Road was 51 years old and it was time the huge tank was refurbished with care.
“A key role for Council is delivering affordable, reliable potable water to residents and businesses within towns in our valley,” he said.
“The Valla Reservoir was constructed in 1975 and it is due for some once in a generation refurbishment work.
“From this Monday 2 February, our specialist contractor, Alfabs Services, will be mobilising its team to site, so the Valla Beach community will see work happening there until about June 2026, weather depending.”
The Valla Reservoir has been taken offline and drained of water this week to enable the refurbishment works. Valla Beach and Valla residents and businesses have been receiving potable water via Council’s trunk main system since about Thursday 29 January. This reliable, potable water supply will continue until the reservoir is back online in about mid 2026.
The refurbishment work will include cleaning the reservoir’s internal walls by high-pressure blast cleaning. Community members may hear a humming noise during blast cleaning. Alfabs Services personnel will endeavour to minimise disturbance and intermittent noise monitoring will occur at the site to ensure compliance with construction noise level limits.
For the safety of the community, Council is requesting motorists and pedestrians please take extra care when traversing past the reservoir and adhere to any directions by traffic controllers.
Construction hours for this work is 7am to 5pm weekdays and work may potentially occur on Saturdays from time to time, between 8am to 1pm.
