At the Ordinary Meeting of Council this week, Councillors resolved to keep the suburb name surrounding the Valla Urban Growth Area mixed-use precinct and Boggy Creek Road as Valla.

Deputy Mayor Susan Jenvey, who moved item 11.5 of the meeting agenda, said settling on Valla as the suburb name was a positive step.

“I’m very pleased about retaining the suburb name of Valla as I know from many months, if not years of discussion, it is the name the majority of the community support,” she said.

“As you know, everyone at Boggy Creek, they do consider themselves to live at Valla. It supports Valla being a big presence within our LGA.”

In November 2025, three residents living along Boggy Creek Road presented at the Public Forum, including Samantha Cox. Mrs Cox presented a petition with 57 signatures showing support for retaining the suburb name of Valla for the area.

“After doing a petition on behalf of our neighbours and other residents here, we are very happy Council is supporting the current name of Valla,” she said.

“It’s a historical name. We have many generations of people who have lived along Boggy Creek Road who have called this area Valla, so it is a relief to know the name will stay.”

The first internal road name within VUGA, the road running up the centre of the Stage One industrial precinct, was also decided: Buuluga Road, which means Black Myrtle in Gumbaynggirr. It is a road name previously approved by the Muurrbay Aboriginal Language Culture Cooperative.

Buuluga Road (Black Myrtle) will now be applied for through the Geographical Names Board of NSW and will be placed on public exhibition for a period of 21 days from the 3 April 2026. Any submissions on the name should be addressed to the General Manager, Nambucca Valley Council, PO Box 177, Macksville NSW 2447. Any submission may be incorporated in a Council business paper or otherwise publicly disclosed.

The closing date for submissions on the Buuluga Road name is 24 April 2026.

This road will be bitumen sealed in May 2026 and VUGA Stage One industrial land is set to hit the market later this year.

VUGA Stage One is being funded by a total investment from the Australian and NSW Governments of $11.2 million and a $17 million contribution from Council.
