Betterment Bridge Projects

Building stronger, safer and more resilient bridges across the Nambucca Valley

Road closure dates and construction programs are indicative and subject to change due to adverse weather, site conditions and contractor availability.

Nambucca Valley Council is delivering the Betterment of Nambucca Valley Council River Crossings Program to replace ageing and vulnerable timber bridges with stronger, higher and more resilient structures.

The program is funded through the jointly funded Australian and NSW Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) and the Regional Roads and Transport Recovery Package (RRTRP), with $9.98 million provided to Nambucca Valley Council.

The bridge replacement program forms part of the broader recovery and resilience works being undertaken across the Nambucca Valley following the severe weather and flooding events of February and March 2022.

The program will deliver six new concrete bridges across the Nambucca Valley:

  • Way Way Bridge – Way Way Creek Road, Way Way
  • Roberts Bridge – Naylors Lane, Upper Taylors Arm
  • Sullivans Bridge – Sullivans Road, Valla
  • Little Motley Bridge – Rodeo Drive, Bowraville
  • Cassidys Bridge – Wirrimbi Road, Newee Creek
  • Browns Crossing No. 1 Bridge – Browns Crossing Road, Warrell Creek

The new bridges are being designed to improve resilience to future severe weather and flooding events. The projects include stronger concrete structures, increased deck lengths, higher clearances over waterways and improvements to the associated road approaches.

Road closures and traffic impacts

Bridge replacement works require roads to be closed at several locations to provide a safe working environment for construction crews and the community.

Road closure dates and construction programs are indicative and subject to change due to weather, site conditions and construction requirements.

Motorists should plan ahead and check the latest road closure information before travelling.

For current road closure information, please refer to Live Traffic NSW and Council's Antenno app.

Council appreciates the community's patience while these important projects are delivered.

Current project status

Construction is now underway across five of the Betterment Bridges projects, with Little Motley Bridge progressing through construction planning with an estimated commencement date February 2027.
