Have Your Say: Nambucca Valley Events Strategy

Nambucca Valley Council is developing an Events Strategy to guide how events are planned, supported and approved across the Valley.

We want to hear from residents, event organisers, businesses and community groups about the events you value, what’s missing and how Council can make holding an event easier.

Your feedback will help shape the Strategy and create more opportunities for events that bring our community together, support local businesses and make our towns and villages more vibrant.

About this project:

Nambucca Valley Council has secured $420,000 in funding through Transport for NSW’s Permit/Plug/Play program to help make it easier to plan, organise and deliver community events, while creating more vibrant and welcoming town centres across the Valley.

The project will support the development of a new Events Strategy, alongside improvements to internal processes, practical resources for event organisers and infrastructure to support events in key town centre locations.

The aim is simple: to make holding an event in the Nambucca Valley more accessible, less complicated and better supported, while helping local communities bring their ideas to life.

Making the process easier for event organisers

Organising an event can involve navigating permits, approvals, traffic management, public safety, insurance, waste management and other requirements. For community groups and volunteers, understanding where to start and what is needed can be a significant challenge.

Through the project, Council will review its existing event processes and identify opportunities to improve coordination across departments, provide clearer information and make the application process easier to navigate.

A key outcome will be the development of an Event Toolkit to guide event organisers through the process, from the initial idea through to planning and delivery. The toolkit will provide practical information about application requirements, approvals, event planning considerations and the resources organisers may need to deliver a successful event.

By making expectations clearer and providing information in one accessible place, Council aims to give organisers greater confidence and help reduce unnecessary complexity when planning events.

A coordinated approach to events

The new Events Strategy will provide a framework for how Council plans, supports and approves events across the Nambucca Valley. It will help establish a more consistent approach to event planning, clarify Council’s role in supporting events and identify opportunities to work more effectively with community organisations, businesses, event organisers and other partners.

The strategy will also consider how events can contribute to community connection, local business activity, tourism and the overall vibrancy of the Valley’s towns and villages.

Supporting vibrant town centres

The project will also explore ways to make street-based events easier to deliver in High Street, Bowraville, and Bowra Street, Nambucca Heads.

These locations offer opportunities to bring people together in the heart of local communities, encourage people to spend time in town centres and create welcoming spaces for community activities, entertainment and local business participation.

As part of the project, Council will consider event infrastructure and practical improvements that can support these activities and help make the streets more adaptable for community events.

The focus is on creating opportunities for local people, businesses and organisations to activate their town centres and build on the unique character of each place.

Building a stronger events culture

From small community gatherings and markets to street festivals and larger celebrations, events play an important role in bringing people together, showcasing local talent and supporting local businesses.

This funding provides Council with an opportunity to review not only how events are delivered, but how it can better support the people who make them happen.

By combining a clear Events Strategy, improved internal processes, practical guidance for organisers and infrastructure to support street events, Council aims to create a more welcoming and coordinated environment for events throughout the Nambucca Valley.

The project will help lay the foundations for a stronger local events culture, making it easier for community ideas to become real events that people can enjoy.
