Council’s grading crew in Valla and Newee Creek

Council’s roads crew finished grading Taylors Arm Road, Utungun, last week and now they are maintaining Mitchells Road at Valla.  

Nambucca Valley Council Acting General Manager David Moloney said the team would likely finish grading Mitchells Road at Valla today (Tuesday 15 September) and then they will move onto the Newee Creek area.  

“Council’s dedicated five-personnel grading team have been working hard to get across the valley in the past few weeks,” he said.

“They finished preparing Taylors Arm Road, at Utungun, last week to have it in good condition and ready for extra traffic this week, while neighbouring Boat Harbour Road at Sauls Dairy is closed for essential culvert replacement works.

“Next they head to Newee Creek to grade the roads off Wirrimbi Road, including Gordons Knob, Birds, and Soldier Settlers roads. 

“Motorists driving along these roads should expect minor delays and take extra care to look out for the team’s traffic control signs.”  

Here is an outline of the grading program for mid-September to late October 2026, weather permitting and subject to change: 

  • Mitchells Road, Valla, from 14-15 September
  • Newee Creek area roads, Soldier Settlers Road, Birds Road, and Gordons Knob Road, from about 16-18 September
  • Valla Road, Valla, week starting 21 September for two weeks
  • Welshs Creek Road, Taylors Arm Road, Williams Hill Road, and Lemans Road, Taylors Arm area, from about 7 October for 2-3 weeks. 

When the grading crew maintains unsealed roads, they usually do the following tasks: 

  • Grade the road surface
  • Clear stormwater pipes of debris
  • Remove unstable material from embankments.

If you wish to let Council know about the condition of an unsealed road, the best way to do it is to download the free mobile phone app, Antenno. Through Antenno, you can save the places you care about and that you wish to receive Council notifications about. You can also take a photo of a section of unsealed road, upload it, and submit it to Council via the app.
