Nambucca Valley celebrates NAIDOC Week – official program

We’re celebrating NAIDOC Week with community partners.

Thank you to Jaanymili Bawrrungga Aboriginal Corporation, Unkya Local Aboriginal Land Council, ShoreTrack, Hippy Australia, Mission Australia, Muurrbay Aboriginal Language and Culture Cooperative and others for partnering with us to deliver some deadly events over NAIDOC Week 5-12 July.

Celebrations include: 

  • Sunday 5 July: BBQ Breakfast at Stuart Island, Nambucca Heads (near boat ramp side).

Whole community is welcome to attend from 8.30am-10.30am.

  • Monday 6 July: Family Sports Day, Henessy Tape Oval, Bowraville.

Bring along the family for a fun Sports Day with activities including basketball, pickleball and touch footaball, from 10am-2pm.

  • Tuesday 7 July: Flag raising ceremony and morning tea at Macksville Hospital, from 9-11am.

This special event will including cutting the NAIDOC cake and a morning tea and cuppa in the courtyard. 

Then at 12-3pm, there will be an Elders Luncheon at Riverview Island, Bowraville.

  • Wednesday 8 July: Exhibition put on by Nambucca Valley Council at the Nambucca Heads Community and Arts Centre, from 10am to 2pm.

This special exhibition will showcase the 50 years of NAIDOC posters. Lunch is provided - on the menu is mullet and fried scones. 

  • Thursday 9 July: Mens Day at Ti Tree, Scotts Head, from 10am-2pm.

This special event will include a BBQ lunch and fishing. There will be prizes up for grabs, so bring the brothers, cousins and little ones down to Ti Tree at Scotts Head for an enjoyable day out.

  • Friday 10 July: Mums and Bubs Day, Stuart Island, Nambucca Heads, 10am-2pm.

This event will include a cultural dance, women's weaving and floral arrangements by Ebony. There will be both a morning tea and BBQ lunch provided. For the children, there will be a sensory table, balloon art and face painting. 

Council is helping to support the delivery of NAIDOC Week events, in conjunction with many special partners including (but not limited to): Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Lifetime Connect, Unkya Local Aboriginal Land Council, Mid North Coast Local Health District, Carer Gateway, Carers NSW, Muurrbay Aboriginal Language and Culture Cooperative, Mission Australia, Hippy Australia, Uniting, ETC Employment & Training, ShoreTrack and more.
